Power & Privilege of Discovering Your ‘Career-Life Path’ Earlier That I Never Had!

If you are in your 20s, pay attention to mentorship.

The power of discovering your path earlier and having the privilege of an experienced mentor to guide you to realise that path is the silver bullet to life’s success!

Do you agree?

This simple statement took me nearly 18 years to arrive at; I never did it earlier.

I missed such a privilege. Not 100% of my making, but also of how life arranged itself!

Think of a case where you are born, and your generation is the first to go to university.

You become your mentor, your guide, your 'everything'.

No one really volunteers to hold your hand to point the way!

You figure everything out yourself.

Trust me, anything you are unable to figure out, you miss out there!

You tread into life & its many decisions with trial & error.

I did trial & error!

Growing up in Nigeria, career & life counselling didn’t have pride of place it should in the schools.

I graduated in my mid-20s. I wandered into a 2nd degree with no clearly-defined career-life path. Then, no work after two degrees.

Next, I stumbled into university lecturing. Now @41, in England, that’s the time I’ve discovered real life’s twists & turns!

So far, I showed how important mentorship is to career-life success. You'll miss too much when you try to figure everything out yourself. I did. Poor me!

I arrived in England in 2012 for my PhD. The experience changed me completely. The quality of access to materials, facilities, the organisation, the help from the institutions!

Having taught in the universities for 10 years working with different students (blacks & whites), I’ve learned a few lessons. I also observed most youths make the mistakes I made──not understanding the need for mentorship.

Now, if you or you know some1 who wants to lay a solid foundation for their career, I've offered the ways forward here:
